We tend to overlook how much the information sources so many of us depend on are themselves dependent on the dedication of a single individual. The Music Electronics Forum, formerly Ampage, has depended on Steve "T-Boy" Morrison since the mid-1990s. The diystompbox forum began life as a sub-forum there in the late '90s, and has relied principally on founder Aron Nelson there. The DIY community was saddened last year by the untimely passing of Steve Ahola, who established and hosted the Blue Guitar archive of guitar amplifier and related schematics and mod articles. Steve had been sick for a while, but it still hurt when we found out he had passed. When DIY synth pioneer Jurgen Haible died by his own hand several years ago, the modular synth community was stunned, and hobbled.

I have used Muff Wiggler regularly. Not as frequently as here, but more than I have ever knowingly used Facebook. RIP Mike. You did good.

Imagine my surprise as I flipped through the obituaries in the Ottawa Citizen this morning, and saw an obit for Mike, and an announcement of a funeral at the east end of the city on FRiday. How was he located here, and I/we never knew it? And yes, it is the same Mike McGrath, because they mention establishing the Muff Wiggler community. Wow. small world.

@mhammer Sorry, I should have made that clear in my initial post.

Mike went to my high school. He was married to someone that lived a few houses down from me when I went to school. She was good friends with my sister, as was Mike. I read this thread yesterday, and didn't connect the dots until I was over at my sister's house for dinner last night and we were discussing things. She told us how Mike would sit in the back of the class, was a friend to everyone, looked like a skater/punk, and was very very smart.

It's weird. One doesn't see all that much modular stuff in the stores, but every now and then I'd see some obscure high-end Eurorack things for sale on Kijiji, and I'd think "THOSE people are in MY city? Who'da thunk it." I wonder if Dave/Greco's son Paul knew Mike, since he's a modular guy.

Paul, my son-in-law, participated in the Muff Wiggler forum and informed me of Mike's passing. It was a shock to that (forum) community.
