Anyone here from Toronto, and old enough to have been a fan of Jackie Shane - ("Any Other Way", "Comin' Down", "In My Tenement"), etc?
I was a big fan - used to sneak into his/her shows on the "Yonge St. Strip" before I was 18. His/her band was great: - Frank Motley and the Hitchhikers (previously the "Motley Crew"). Frank could play two horns at the same time, (with both sides of his mouth).
Together, they defined what became known as "The Toronto Sound", which survived for over a decade, and eventually became lost in the more broadly defined "R&B".
There is a huge mural of Jackie on one of the buildings on Yonge street, near where he performed.
