    It's a quiz--but they give away a pedal every 1000 entries--(if you give them an email-of course)
But you can do the quiz without giving an email.

How much do you know about Distortion?

YOU GOT 9 OUT OF 9 CORRECT
    You've Ranked: Distortion MASTER!

(Granted for someone like me who reads all about this stuff, and talks about it & likes to play with distortion, and has four distortion pedals that he uses...)

I scored 6 out of 9 and never use distortion. Having a bit of associated "electronics knowledge" helps.

I am not a distortion expert. I knew the answer to 6, and guessed correctly on 2.
I always felt, given enough time, that I could get similar sound out of a variety of overdrive/distortion pedals. In my case it would be similarly bad sound, because I am more of a clean player.

I seldom like how I sound, unless it is loud, loud, loud. I find it more difficult to achieve day to day similarly in sound at low volume with overdrive/distortion and definitely with most fuzz pedals. Using a fuzz just gets to the threshold of loud and beyond very quickly.

I've spent a fair bit of time over the years with my distortion pedals on what sounds good & what doesn't--and sometimes the guitar I'm using changes all of that.
Sometimes it takes a while to get a good sound.

For me, that is likely what is happening. I tend to have what me ears love in a clean guitar in the hands. The guitars that sound best with drive pedals and amps are still hanging on the wall or in a case.

It's a pretty appalling quiz. I could only get a half-dozen questions in before throwing my hands up in disgust. "What's the best effect: overdrive, distortion, fuzz?" Really? That's a question with a correct answer? And no, while many distortion pedals DO use diodes, a great many do not. I dare them to find me a diode anywhere in a Fuzz Face or any of the hundreds of derivatives.

    Children. Bah!

That last question "What's the best effect: overdrive, distortion, fuzz?" was just for fun--al answers are correct.
It's supposed to be for fun.

It’s a marketing question so that they send you email with content that you are actually interested in.

Exactly. I'm sure there are tons of 'boutique' pedals that only use those kinds of diodes but there are equally as many that use FETs or MOSFets.

I think Distortion is some A hole on a guitar forum.

8 out of 9 because I didn't select all 3 for the last question :)

Well since it's actually on their website and I looked up their website, not really.

    Is it marketing?
    Sure.
    That's how that works.

But you don't have to do the quiz or give them an email.
