Willard first came to our attention here on Fernwood Tonight, as the perfect oblivious idiot foil to Martin Mull's if-I'm-so-clever-what-am-I-doing-here host. Indeed, it was Willard whose often naively tasteless commentary was the real comic engine of the show. He could always be counted on as the guy who had no clue that everything was spinning out of control and falling down around him.

I will miss him appearing in anything new, but thankfully we have a huge catalog of his work available to us all. Thanks for the laughs, Fred. And thanks to Christopher Guest for knowing a comic jewel when he sees one.

This hurts. His performance in Best in Show is so brilliant. Man, I want to watch it now for a tribute.

    RIP

Also a fan since the Jerry Hubbard days. Hopefully right now he's catching up on old times with Virgil Simms. :)
I was not aware he was that old. Or the amount of work he's done, doesn't seem he retired and was still working recently.
