It is so very hard to improve on a classic guitar design. If you want proof, look around and see the umpteen attempts to make the Stratocaster, the Telecaster, the Les Paul, the SG, better. Largely, these efforts miss the mark. However, what Collings has done with their ES-335-style guitar, the I-35 LC, is nothing short of spectacular. Imagine the best 335 you have ever played, then give it more focus, more clarity, better acoustic tone (which translates, of course, to better plugged-in tone), better mid-range response, thicker trebles, better fit and finish, and the most perfect neck carve you could imagine -- that is what this guitar is, and more. This near-mint 2017 example, in gorgeous tobacco sunburst (IMO, the most attractive finish Collings offers) is basically the end when it comes to semi-hollow guitar tone and playability. If this guitar doesn't inspire you when you pick it up, probably nothing will. Ships in its original Ameritage hard case, with all the care that such a fine instrument deserves. The prices on all Collings models recently went up and this guitar will currently run you over 7500 CAD, new. This one is stock, with Lollar low-wind Imperial pickups, and is extremely clean.

Is that a flaw near the control knob or just more drool?

Yes, I would have to agree with your "essay" as these are spectacular guitars. I have owned a 1999 Gibson ES 335 (I lucked out on a good one and was very pleased) also I had an original 1965 Epiphone Sheraton. Later on I owned two Edwards models - great guitars for the price...also had a MIJ Washburn- nice construction but the neck was way too thin ... I have a Indonesian Cort Source... nice and inexpensive guitar but the "guts" and pickups all had to be replaced to make me happier....Finally I have the pleasure of owning an older Collings I35 ....no question - it simply is the BEST "335 style" guitar I have ever owned ! The combination of tone, the overall "feel" and the look...it's truly a "winner". You can stop searching for a good 335 once you have laid your hands on one of these. Good luck with the sale.
