To those of a certain age, the "psychedelic revolution" and eastern-religion interest of the late '60s and early '70s had 3 basic figureheads: Timothy Leary, Alan Watts, and Richard Alpert - who became Baba Ram Dass. Alpert and Leary were both psychology faculty colleagues at Harvard. Alpert went east, but both went "inside", albeit in different ways. CHOM-FM in Montreal used to broadcast Ram Dass's spiritual lectures in the early '70s. I can still hear his goofy halting chuckle. I have my copy of Be Here Now in the basement, along with a single issue of Psychedelic Review (Psychedelic Review Archives 1963-1971 - MAPS )

I thought he went years ago. He was almost required reading along with Carlos Castaneda and Jack Kerouac. At least their books along with Big Bambu (minus the paper) used to be on a lot of coffee tables and floors. I still have my copy of On The Road around.....found it while hitchiking out of Revelstoke and heading east in '65.

Not sure if what him or Watts that told of an Indian Guru swallowing copious amounts of LSD to no effect

I always pictured the guru subsequently tripping balls and freaking out. LOL

It was a joke. Only someone with a background in science would get it.

Dissolved into a cloud of dust and reappeared moments later along with Billy Graham kicking the natives in the back streets of Calcutta.

The last thing the pilgrims hear as the rain falls is, "Oh my god it'd daddy!"
