Andy Griffith, the American actor known for the 1960s sitcom The Andy Griffith Show and legal drama Matlock, has died. He was 86.

Paramedics were called to his home in Manteo, N.C., Tuesday morning, according to a longtime friend who spoke to local television station WITV.

I was a kid who grew up on Sheriff Taylor's wit and wisdom. I can still watch those hokey old shows and laugh and cry. Well written and well acted and I will never get that damn theme song out of my head! I wish you well in your new journey Andy. You have given so many people so much.

Mr. Griffith was my all time Hero. His character as the Sherriff of Mayberry really mirrored his real dignity and high moral values combined with small town folkiness. I even have his signature D-18 AG which I played in honour of this gentlemnan last night. He shall truly be missed. Here are some pics of my D-18AG and some photos of Andy. They don't make them like Andy anymore. May he rest in Peace.

The Andy Griffith Show. Ahead of it's time. When other sitcoms had mom, dad and kids, Andy had a show about a single dad bringing up his son. RIP Andy.

I think my first contact with Andy Griffith was the 1959 movie "Onionhead", that my cousin and I went to see in a small 2nd run theatre. I remember him as being gentle funny. Griffith's likely first big break came with the now classic 1953 comedy routine "What it was was football", in which he recounts the first exposure of a naive country lad to the game. What it Was, Was Football - Field Gulls

This was one of the shows of that time I barely watched. I was more into the 6 million man and such. But I know he was a multi-talented man. RIP
