I use a combination of the two and a good anolog... tuner Korg At 120.

I've recently been using the harmonic+fretted approach, and it has not worked for me. I think I will go back to my older method of fretted on the neck side of the 12th, vs fretted on the body side of the 12th and picked along the neck. If the string is indeed dvided perfectly in two at the 12th fret, then the pitch on one side of the string ought to be equivalent to the pitch on the other, right?
The limiting factor is how much string clearance you have, given the nut and fret height. |

I fret at the 12th simply because my ears and hands tell me it sounds better that way. I may compensate (depending on the guitar and player) for other frets...ie, someone who plays nothing but cowboy chords really just needs it to play perfectly in the open position so I may take that into consideration.
Nut slots should be tweaked first, imho. Peace, Mooh. |
